point arena hot springs

mayhaps i will get around to posting a video of an amazing trip taken by some friends and i to the the point arena hot springs, which has been abandoned since sometime after 1910. the hike necessitated over sixty river crossings. found a turtle in the wild for the first time! saw some amazingly thick patches of artemisia vulgaris (common mugwort) growing along the garcia river.

it was so nice to soak in the springs & smoke some chronic after four brutally scenic hours hiking up the garcia. we played harmonica, ate curry & fell asleep to the sounds of the river wrapped up in a tent. apparently there's burnt foundation of some old hotel up the hill from where the springs are located, though i didn't see for myself. i guess horse was the preferred method of travel way back when?

scour the soak.net forums if you're interested in going. we basically hiked four hours upstream from the earl voorhees campground.

if anyone wants to explain to me the directions of hiking/mountain biking from fish rock road to me, i'd be super grateful.

lloyd!

thank you for all the info! i had heard louisiana-pacific owned the land, happy to hear the conservation fund owns it.

definitely would like to try to mountain bike in some day - though i have heard that fish rock road is not the safest place to leave a vehicle unattended.

definitely would love to see some pictures if you do end up going soon!
